PROPOSED LEADERSHIP ROLE · REMOTE

Help the people behind the stories do their best work.

Muslim Manga is developing a clearer way to welcome, support, and coordinate contributors. The General Volunteer Manager would be the central point of contact for the volunteer program, reporting directly to the Founder / Director.

Role at a glance

  • Reports to: Founder / Director
  • Supports: all volunteers at first, then department Volunteer Team Managers as the program grows
  • Location: remote, international coordination
  • Indicative time: 4 to 6 hours a week, flexible and not a binding quota
  • Status: proposed. This role is not open for applications yet, and recruitment status will be posted here.

The mission of this role

A creative project can have talented contributors and still struggle when no one knows who is doing what. This role brings clarity: welcome new people, match them to manageable tasks, keep communication flowing, notice when someone needs help, and make it easier for contributors to stay engaged without burning out.

Responsibilities

1 · Recruitment and onboarding

Help review suitable applications, hold brief introductory conversations, assign a first task, and explain team norms.

2 · Volunteer coordination

Keep a current roster, department assignments, skills, availability and task status in an approved private system.

3 · Support and retention

Hold lightweight check-ins, recognize contributions, help resolve scheduling issues, and refer serious concerns to the Founder.

4 · Department leadership

As the team grows, support the selection, onboarding and regular check-ins of department Volunteer Team Managers.

5 · Clear reporting

Share a short weekly summary of active contributors, completed work, blockers, upcoming needs and decisions that need the Founder’s approval.

6 · Process improvement

Create reusable checklists, role descriptions, onboarding guides and offboarding steps.

7 · Boundaries and safeguarding

Follow privacy, copyright, access-control and conduct procedures, and escalate any safety, harassment, legal or commercial concern promptly.

How the team is organised

  1. Founder / Director
  2. General Volunteer Manager (reports to the Founder / Director)
  3. Department Volunteer Team Managers (appointed as needed, report to the General Volunteer Manager)
  4. Department volunteers

At first the General Volunteer Manager works directly with all volunteers. A department manager is appointed only when a team has enough active work to need one.

What success looks like after 60 to 90 days

  • A current, access-controlled volunteer roster exists.
  • Every active contributor knows their point of contact and current assignment.
  • New contributors get a consistent welcome and first task.
  • The Founder gets a useful weekly update without chasing individuals.
  • Repeated blockers and abandoned tasks are visible early.
  • Department manager roles are proposed only when the workload warrants them.

A good fit

You are organized, responsive, kind but comfortable following up, and good at turning ambiguous requests into simple next steps. Experience leading a student club, community group, nonprofit initiative, online community or small project team is relevant. You do not need to draw manga, speak Japanese, or hold a management title.

What this role is not

It does not authorize signing contracts, hiring staff, setting pay, making binding publishing promises, handling sensitive applicant data outside approved systems, or making final editorial or legal decisions. It is not a guarantee of future paid employment.

Questions

Is the role open? It is a proposed role. Recruitment status will be published here after organizational review.

Will I manage all departments? At first, yes, for coordination. Later, department managers take over day-to-day team assignments.

Do I approve final comics? No. Publishing and editorial approval follow separate permissions.

What if I need to step away? There should be a documented handoff. Stepping away from a role never affects your ordinary community membership.
